Summer is coming and it is time to level up your Kubernetes fitness! If you’re tired of coding bootcamps and training videos, join the Ambassador Labs team on our virtual beach this summer to get hands-on with Kubernetes in a stress-free way.

For application developers, Kubernetes introduces a lot of new challenges. There are more pieces of the software development lifecycle to worry about and many new tools to understand and learn to use. Whether you’re just getting started or already using Kubernetes in production, the Summer of Kubernetes challenge is meant to provide application developers with the tools you need to be successful with Kubernetes. Along the way you’ll connect with other community members, get live help from experts, and you can also enter a competition to win fun prizes!

Learn to Code, Ship, and Run your K8s services in 90 days

Over the course of the summer our community experts will introduce you to a variety of concepts and useful open source tools to level up your cloud native skills. In just 90 days, you will have:

  • Built an effective local development environment for building and testing K8s services
  • Deployed multiple example services to a K8s cluster using GitOps practices
  • Observed your applications running in a production-like environment

You’ll also get hands-on with many open source tools in the cloud native ecosystem including Kubie, Argo, Telepresence, Emissary Ingress, Linkerd, and more!

Summer of Kubernetes: Get Hands-on with Expert Help

The “Summer of Kubernetes” is a free, hands-on learning experience divided into three, month-long chapters that span the app development lifecycle: Code, Ship, and Run.

Don’t worry, you can drop in and take part at your pace throughout the summer based on the topics and activities that interest you the most. You’ll also have a team of expert K8s guides to help you along the way, with weekly livestreams and office hours sessions to answer your questions and help you dive deep on the topics. Throughout the summer, you’ll get to connect with other K8s developers around the world, get inspired and solve problems together.

Join our K8s Community: Learn Together and Win Sweet Prizes

There are plenty of coding bootcamps and tutorials available to help you learn Kubernetes basics, but the Summer of Kubernetes community focuses on:

  • Being opinionated: We’ll show you the one way that gets you up and running with speed and safety. We’ll point out tradeoffs and considerations for the next stage in learning.
  • Learning from your peers: The Ambassador Labs community consists of thousands of engineers from well-known organizations that are solving real K8s problems at scale. Learn together in Slack, via live streams, and in Zoom office hours.
  • Developer-first content: Many tutorials focus on the operational aspects of K8s, but this community puts app developers first.
  • Have fun: Win cool prizes including a shiny new M1 iPad Pro for completing weekly activities while hanging out with other participants and expert guides.

Today, we’ve released the first week of learning activities focused on setting up your local development environment. This week we’ll be hosting two events to get your local development environment up and running on Kubernetes.

  • Join us on Twitch on Tuesday at 1 PM ET where Peter O’Neill will be livestreaming this week’s material
  • Attend office hours on Thursday at 10 AM ET to get your questions answered about your own local environment setup

If this sounds like how you like to learn, join our awesome guides — Daniel Bryant and Peter O’Neill for a summer of fun! You can learn more on our website or join our Slack channel to see what all the excitement is about.
